EUSPBA Florida Branch BL Banner

Welcome to the EUSPBA Florida Branch

The 2012 Florida EUSPBA Competition Season Comes to a Close!

As the bands lined up for the closing massed bands at the Heart of Florida Celtic Festival and Highland Games,  we were looking at the final moments of the 2012 EUSPBA Florida Branch season.

A numbers of the bands and solo competitiors will travel northward and westward for additional competitions and we wish them the best of luck!

The four highland games were all good events.  We saw a change in venue and date for the Southeast games, both of which were well received.  This was the second year for the Heart of Florida games, formerly the Zephryhills games, and once again a good event.  We did see some rain. . . OK, quite a bit of rain.  But a little rain makes for some fine Scottish weather and the games went on as planned.

This was the first year  grade four bands were required to play a mini MSR and it seems the bands certainly rose to  the challenge.  It made for a more interesting competition and raised the bar from previous years.  A very welcomed change!

The run for the Florida Cup was a close race for both grades.  We expect next year the competition will be even more intense and will certainly be a great  2013 season.

We would like to greatly thank all the people who attended and participated in the games this season.  We look forward to seeing all next year!

Florida Cup Points Calculations and Rules

The points tally is calculated as follows:

1st place = 70 points, 2nd place = 50 points, 3rd place = 30 points, and 4th place = 20 points.

In the event of a tie at season's end, the band with the most 1st place finishes takes the cup.  If a second tie breaker is needed, we will use total ensemble points (using the same points system as stated above) to determine the winner of the Florida Cup.

This annual award is open to any competing band regardless of home association and location.  Good luck to all bands.

This will be a legacy trophy passed down year to year to the winning band in each of the grades (3, 4, and 5).  The band name will be placed on the trophy and a smaller trophy will be given to each band for their permanent display.

Florida Branch Band Representative Program

The roster of representatives is still growing and we are attempting to establish a representative for every EUSPBA Florida Branch band.   If you have not yet selected a band representative and are interested in participating in the program, please contact Hugh Boyle at euspbafl.hugh@gmail.com

This is an significant effort to provide effective and timely communication on topics of interest, issues, and suggestions.

  • Each EUSPBA Florida Branch member band will elect a representative.
  • The band representative  will be the primary communication link for information coming from and going to the branch.
  • There will be regular meetings with the branch band representatives to review and discuss programs, suggestions, issues, and new initiatives.
  • Most of the communication will consist of emailings and online meetings to minimize travel time and maximize productivity
  • If you're interested in additional information or involvement please contact the branch at info@euspbaflorida.com.
